Canada/Quebec Pension Plan – Disability Benefits


The Canada/Quebec Pension Plan provides a Disability benefits for covered individuals. Benefits are considered for long and prolonged illnesses and you must be unable to pursue any substantially gainful occupation for a long, indefinite period. If eligible, a Disability pension under CPP/QPP begins in the fourth month after a person is considered Totally Disabled. This benefit is taxable income to you.

Once your LTD benefits have been approved by Great-West Life and depending on your disability and prognosis, you may be requested by Great-West Life to make an application for this benefit. Should you fail to make an application for CPP/QPP Disability benefits when requested, your LTD monthly benefit will be reduced by an estimated CPP/QPP monthly disability benefit.

If approved for CPP/QPP Disability benefits, it is a direct deduction from any eligible LTD monthly benefit received from your Great-West Life Group Insurance Disability Plan.
